Ep. 4 — Turbo Charging Social Media for the Big Mo(mentum)
I’ll show you how to merge your campaign social media with your yard sign program to turbo-charge the Big Mo momentum. Let’s get started!
Welcome back to another episode of Hell Hath No Fury. My name is Ana Maria, host of Sassy Political Coach.
The Big Mo — Momentum. It’s the energy that drives all of our campaigns to victory, a BIG BLUE VICTORY this November. I’m going to show you how to meld together the social media and yard sign program of a campaign to turbo-charge the Big Mo.
So get ready.
Deliver the yard signs during the day. That’s when everyone can see you, and someone will be at home more than likely.
Secondly, you want to make sure, of course, that you’re going to wear your campaign t-shirt, so it’s obvious what you’re doing in the neighborhood. It’s really good promo for our Democratic candidates!
You’re going to have your yard signs to deliver and the list of voters who have requested signs. Go to the house, knock on the door, stand back several feet. Be polite. Introduce yourself.
Hi, I’m Ana Maria. I’m here with the Democratic campaign delivering the yard sign that you requested. Where would you like me to put it?
The voter will tell you.
Okay, great. I’ll be right back.
You’ll put the sign up. You return to the house. Knock on the door.
It’s me again.
Is the sign where you want it? Oh, wonderful!
Well, [name your candidate here] would LOVE to have a short little video of you with your sign to post on the campaign’s social media. And if there is anyone else in the home who would like to join, that would be great!
You set it up. Take a quick video. Encourage the voter to say something like, “I support so and so,” or “I support so and so, because …. “
Use Powerstory.io to curate the videos, contact information, and the permission to use it on social media.
With Powerstory, the voter fills out the form online that you have teed up on your cell phone. That is where voters provide their contact information. The form syncs the video with the contact info.
It really is a wonderful platform. I used it a lot when I was the communications director in 2020 for the ACLU of Georgia.
Anyway, thank the voter. Tell ’em that you’ll let ’em know when the video is posted.
The video goes up to a cloud. The campaign will have a designated member on the team to determine when to post the videos.
Once it’s posted, the campaign can call and tell the voter! This is another personal contact with the voter. Additionally, the campaign can email the voter with the information and provide all the links to the various places the video is posted — social media channels and/or on a campaign website with social media feeds.
If no video was taken at the home because maybe somebody didn’t want to or there was no one at home, send out a thank you for putting up the yard sign, share info on the video program with links to where you’ve already uploaded other videos.
Additionally, provide a link to the campaign’s Powerstory account, and encourage them to take a video themselves. The videos automatically go up to the cloud. Nothing will post until the designated campaign member approves the post.
Of course, yard signs will get picked up at events, so be sure to have a sheet of paper providing instructions on how supporters can use YOUR Powerstory account to participate.
NOTE: Be sure to set up your Powerstory account so that nothing is auto- posted. This provides your campaign with total control over the video release.
So look, you have wonderful volunteer opportunities for team members yard sign members, social media people, and volunteers who are going to make the phone calls along with others who can send out the emails. What a fantastic way to engage volunteers who are eager to help!
The MAGIC, of course, is that this program provides excellent person-to-person contact with the voters.

Then, there’s the email and social media contacts.
Oh my gosh! There’s so much personal contact between the campaign and supporters in functions that are traditionally just wham, bam, thank you, ma’am.
Folks are going to be talking. Friends and family are going to see it.
Support from your MOST IMPORTANT influencers — VOTERS — will be off the charts and skyrocket. This program can be golden for our Democratic candidate campaigns!
